Wetzel County 4H Camp has been a gathering place for youth and community groups since the 1960s. Operated by the West Virginia University Extension Service, the camp sits on 240 acres of rolling woodland along the West Fork River in New Martinsville.
Whether you're leading a youth group, hosting a service project, or organizing a retreat, the camp provides cabins, a community dining hall, outdoor kitchens, and trails that change with every season. The focus is always on hands-on experience — cooking over a fire, building something with your hands, spending time outside without a screen in sight.
It's not a resort. It's a working camp where the value is in the program, the setting, and the people who come through the door.
From overnight cabins to outdoor kitchens and meeting spaces, the camp is set up for groups that want to get things done — not just show up.
Multiple cabin buildings with bunk-style sleeping, each accommodating small to medium groups comfortably.
A full-service dining hall with kitchen facilities, capable of serving large group meals during retreats and camps.
An open-air gathering space with a central fire pit, ringed by log seating — the heart of evening programming.
Miles of marked trails through mature hardwood forest, along creek beds, and across open ridgelines.
Open meadow spaces for team-building exercises, games, and outdoor classroom sessions.
Covered cooking area with grills, prep stations, and water access for group meal preparation.
The camp welcomes 4-H clubs, school groups, faith organizations, scout troops, and community teams. Each visit is an opportunity to step away from the routine and spend a few days focused on something hands-on and meaningful.
Week-long or weekend programs for 4-H clubs and youth organizations with structured activity schedules.
Environmental science, outdoor skills, agriculture, and leadership workshops in a natural classroom setting.
Quiet, focused environments for church groups, service organizations, and community teams seeking a retreat setting.
Scout troops and volunteer teams can book the camp for merit badge work, service projects, and team-building weekends.
Every time of year brings something different to the property — spring wildflowers, summer green canopy, autumn color, and winter stillness.
Whether it's a weekend retreat or a full week of programs, we'll help you set up a schedule that fits your group's needs.
Located just outside New Martinsville along Route 2, the camp is about 15 minutes from the Ohio River and a short drive from Wheeling. Free parking is available on site.
